James Angus was born in Perth, Australia in 1970. He received an MFA (Sculpture) from the Yale University School of Art in 1998 and a BA (Fine Arts) from Curtin University in 1990. He currently lives and works in Berkeley, California.
Since 1991, he has held twenty four solo exhibitions at galleries including Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery, Sydney; Gavin Brown's Enterprise, New York; and Triple V, Paris. In 2006 his work was the subject of a major touring exhibition organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. He has participated in numerous surveys including the Biennale of Sydney (2002, 2008, 2014); Face Up: Contemporary Art from Australia, Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin (2003); The Age of Influence, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago (2000); and Unfinished History, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (1998). He has completed thirteen large-scale permanent public commissions in Australia, the United States, France and South Korea.
